born: December 6, 1928 in Crescent, Oklahoma
died: January 22, 1989

Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Friend:

A very special person among many, who was endeared by her family, friends and her church. Mable did not know the meaning of the word "no" when asked to serve on a committee, help a friend, sit with the sick. The answer was always "yes."

Mable was a very active member of Greater St. Mary's Baptist Church, serving as Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, Chairperson of the Darcus Circle of her Mission Union, and also served as Chairperson for funeral dinners. One of the many projects she truly loved doing was coordinating the many bus trips to the National Baptist Sunday School Congress and National Baptist Convention. One of her favorite projects was volunteering at fund raisers for KMUW with Dennis Shaw. When the doors opened at 6:00 a.m., Mable was always there.

My mother was a very special role model for me, as a single parent she worked hard to see that we had the necessities of life, and never considered us a burden. There is an empty space in all our hearts that cannot be replace. She was my hero, in good times or bad, and never complained even in sickness. Mable, we love and miss you.

My grandmother was truly special. A few of the many qualities that I will remember her for were her positive attitude, warmness, kindness, generosity and her showering of affection. No matter how bad I felt about myself or if my self worth was low she always made me feel I counted and was worthwhile. My only regret is that I did not thank here when she was here.
