Roselle E. Hofrenning

Roselle Emmaline Hofrenning was a very warm and caring woman, mother, wife and friend with a great sense of humor, who enjoyed a good laugh. She was loved by many and is greatly missed. She was a role model, a confidant and a friend, and will always be a heroine in the hearts of her four daughters, Ilene, Barbara, Sharon and Maureen.

Roselle Berg was born to Joseph and Ida (Tommerdahl) Berg on August 25, 1923, in Hendrum, MN. She graduated from Hendrum High School as valedictorian. She graduated from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing, Fargo, ND, and received her B.S. from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, in Nursing, a field and occupation she loved. Roselle worked as a nurse at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis and the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City. She later taught at the St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing, Fargo. Roselle met Monrad Hofrenning at the University of Minnesota and they were married July 21, 1951, at the Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Hendrum, MN.

Roselle was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Fargo where she was the church librarian for many years. She was a 4-H leader when her daughters were young and later, was a volunteer at MeritCare Hospital. Roselle was a poet and writer and had several poems and children’s stories published.

Roselle and her husband, Monte, enjoyed traveling and they would travel at least twice a year. They especially enjoyed visiting their four daughters and their families who live "coast-to-coast." Their international travel included trips to England, Japan and Norway, where they explored their heritage. Roselle and Monte were avid walkers and could be seen daily, strolling in their north Fargo neighborhood so often they dubbed themselves "the north side hoofers."

Roselle and Monte left their home of fifty years in north Fargo and moved to The Evergreens in November 2003 where they enjoyed their last months together. Roselle, 80, died June 30, 2004, surrounded by her loving husband and four daughters.

Her daughters will always remember her as a true friend, a gracious host, a caring nurse, a loving wife, a supportive mother, a heroine.
