 Judy Broshears Clark 1943-1989

Judith Eileen Broshears was born September 18, 1943, in Missouri, to M. E. and Ruby Broshears. In Wichita she attended Eugene Fields Elementary and Mayberry Middle School, and was a 1961 graduate of North High School.

Judy attended Wichita State University from 1961 to 1965, where she was a freshman cheerleader, Army ROTC Queen, Phi Delta Theta Sweater Girl, and served as President of Delta Gamma Sorority. She graduated from WSU with a degree in Education in 1965.

During her teaching career she taught at Hadley Junior High and South High School in Wichita, and also at schools in Kansas City and in Alabama, while her husband was in the military.

Judy married Steve Clark in 1967 (a 1965 WSU Business graduate), and had two children, a daughter Shannon in 1970, and a son, Stephen, Jr., in 1980.

Judy was active in civic organizations in Wichita, and had many friends from her college experience at WSU. Her life ended prematurely on January 2, 1989, in a car accident at Webb Road and East 13th Street in Wichita, while taking her son Stephen, who was almost nine years old at the time, to a tennis lesson. A driver ran a stop sign at a high speed while chasing her husband and hit Judy's car in the driver's side.

Judy's life served as an inspiration to many, and as a symbol of how at a relatively young age, after achieving much success, life can end suddenly and unexpectedly. Her devotion to friends and family will never be forgotten by those who knew her best. Her physical beauty was admired by many, but her inner strength, values and love for her family made her a true heroine.
