Joan Wilkes Downs

Born January 2, 1928- Harriman, TN.- to Jean Roberts and James Bart Wilkes; sister of Geraldine (“Jerri”- deceased) and Shirley Jean (deceased).

Joan married in 1949 to Harry G. Simpson, Jr., and moved from Paducah, KY. to Charleston, MO. Joan and Harry had two children: Joan Adele, born in 1952, in St. Louis, MO., and Elaine Gladys-Jean, in 1955 in St. Louis, MO. Harry G. Simpson, Jr. died in 1968.

Joan and Charles M. Downs, Jr., were married and moved from St. Louis, MO. to Wichita, KS. in 1970.

Charles Downs and his late wife, Ruth, had four children: Susan, Ruth, Charles M. III and Felicie.

Charles Downs died in 2005 after being happily married to Joan for 37 years, and leaving a total of thirteen grandchildren.

Joan is an interior designer, the author of cookbooks and the owner of C. Downs Enterprises.
