The Heroines

Lois Wilson King

is honored with a Medium Paver from Elizabeth and Donald King.

A tribute to my mother: From her humble beginnings - growing up on a South Dakota farm - the foundation of a woman with great character was laid. After completing her degree at South Dakota University she moved to Chicago to begin her professional career as a social worker. Marriage and a family of six children soon followed. From then on she dedicated herself to being a full-time mother, and later a devoted grandmother. Mother passed away in 1992, knowing she was leaving a legacy of ten grandchildren and the number has since grown to 18, including my two.

I immediately think of my mother as being a kind, loving woman, who was firm in her resolve and had a quiet authority about her. She was most gracious at all times, supremely tactful, always hospitable and knew how to nudge and encourage her children without them realizing it.

A strong faith in God was the glue that held her and gave her inner peace. She imparted great wisdom to her children, and to this day we feel her impression upon us.
