The Heroines

Mary L. Estes

is honored with a Brick from Yvonne Slingerland.

Mary L. Estes I first met Mary in the fall of 1962 when she took a position at Emporia State Teachers College. For the next twelve years, I had the opportunity to interact professionally with her and become aware of the special person that she is. In 1976, largely due to her mother's poor health, Mary resigned and ultimately moved to Wichita. She took a job with the Postal Service and rapidly advanced to the position of Training and Development Specialist and then to Postmaster.

Regardless of her role in life teacher, trainer, daughter, sister, friend Mary has always encouraged others to believe in themselves and in their ability to accomplish their goals. Her ability to guide others to discover their own solutions to life's problems is just one of her unique qualities. She is excellent with inter-personal relationships and her gentle, supportive personality has helped many students and trainees to succeed.

As a friend, she is intelligent, generous, honest, warm, loyal, and affectionate. For these reasons, I wish to honor Mary L. Estes by placing her name in the Plaza of Heroines at Wichita State University.
