Judith A. Garrison Hill (Judy) has made the Psychology Department at Wichita State University more than just a place to work. Her enthusiasm and willingness to put in many "extra miles" has created a supportive and caring atmosphere for faculty and students.

Judith A. Garrison, the eighth of ten children, was born to Dorothy and Homer Garrison on December 19, 1939 in Sedgwick County, Wichita, Kansas. Her entire childhood and teenage years were spent in Wichita where she attended Riverside Elementary, O.K. Elementary, John Marshall Junior High, and was a 1958 graduate of North High School. The members of the family were active members in the First Baptist Church of Wichita. As Judy has said many times, "the strong beliefs of my parents gave the caring and giving feelings that are still with me today." Even in her active involvement in sports, these feelings can be seen in that she believes "more in good sportsmanship and the challenge and camaraderie rather than winning or losing."

In August 1958, she married Miles E. Hill, Jr. For the first six years of their marriage his job took them out on the road and they traveled extensively. They settled back in Wichita to raise their family, Jerry Lee Hill and Linda Sue Hill. Her four grandchildren and one great-grandchild provide an on-going sense of family fun and continuity.

During the years of raising her children, Judy was actively involved in their education. She was on call for the bingo nights, cake walks, chili feeds, bierocks diners and field trips for any class when it was needed. The positions she held during her children's school years included PTA President, Brownie leader, Boy Scout Den Mother girl Scout leader, and assistant baseball coach.

Judy still managers to find time for several civic and social organizations. She belongs to the Wichita Women's Bowling Association, the Kansas Association for Family and Community Education, and the Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-65, Tent 34.
