The Heroines

Margie Dersi

is honored with a Brick from Patricia Cox, Bob Howell, Sherilyn Maynard, Dorothy McConnell, Katie Panek, and Brian Wholf.

We take pleasure in honoring our friend and colleague, Margie Dersi.

Margie Dersi has been a mainstay in the Wichita State University Athletic Department for 24 years, having served in fund-raising efforts, as business manager, and, since 1992, as director of ticket office operation and ticket sales.

After she came to Wichita State in 1968 to assist in the fund-raising campaign for the construction of Cessna Stadium, she served in various capacities in the business and ticket offices until 1975 when for five years she pursued other business interests in Wichita. She returned to the university in 1980, serving as ticket manager until 1984. She then moved to the business office as assistant to the assistant athletic director for business operations prior to becoming budget director from 1987-92.

Margie Dersi was born in Berlin, Germany, and attended school in both Germany and the United States. She and her husband, Lahcen, a native of Morocco, moved to Wichita in 1967 from Rabat, Morocco, and became United States citizens in 1973. Their daughter, Rhita, lives with her family in California. Prior to serving as the office administrator for the World Health Organization in Rabat, Dersi served as interpreter/translator and office administrator at several United States government agencies in Germany and Morocco.

Her friends and colleagues honor her in the Plaza of Heroines as an expression of their appreciation for her superb administrative skills, the breadth of her cultural understanding and her personal warmth and generosity. Her dedication to the mission of the Athletic Department and Wichita State University embody the spirit of our enterprise.
