The Heroines

Barbara Ann Smith

is honored with a Brick from William H. Smith.

Barbara Ann Smith It gives me great pleasure to honor my wife, Barbara Ann Smith, in such a special way because she is such a special person. We met when I was a student at West Virginia University and have been married since 1962. She has been a partner, advisor, and friend through my career changes that took us from West Virginia to Kansas to South Dakota and back to Kansas. Barbara is a graduate of the University of South Dakota. While being a mother to three young sons, she completed her nursing degree in 1976. Since then, she has had a very successful career as a Registered Nurse. Her greatest pleasure is providing care to those in need. Barbara is a wonderful mother to our three sons, Michael, Stephen, and Jeffrey, all graduates of Wichita State University; and their wives, Stephanie, Michelle, and Melissa. Our grandchildren could not have a more loving and caring grandmother.

Throughout my career as a university administrator, Barbara has been there in support, playing such an important role in any success I might have had. Since Barbara is a heroine to our family, I am pleased to share her name and story with others in the Plaza of Heroines.
