The Heroines

Norma Jean Hall

is honored with a Brick from Linda Gill.

Born July 23, 1928

Norma J. (Olson) Hall was born and raised on a farm in the Odense Community of Neosho County, Kansas. From a very early age, she was responsible for the care of her five younger siblings and household chores while her mother worked.

On August 4, 1945, she married Walter Milford Hall. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Erie, Kansas where she finished high school. She then attended Junior College for one year to receive her teaching certificate. She taught at Barney school for one year before the first of her four children was born. Though she has worked outside the home, her family has always come first. Two of my fondest childhood memories are homemade hot cocoa and toast for breakfast on cold winter mornings and fresh baked cookies after school.

Whenever anyone in the family, grandchildren included, need anything they always know they can depend on her. Whether it is treats for school, a last minute Halloween costume, or just someone to listen, she is always there for all of us. She has taught us by example, living a life of strong moral conviction based on her religious beliefs. She has been a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her interests include sewing, cooking, reading, gardening, fishing, and farming.

My mother is my heroine because she taught us:

To be loving and kind,
To place our family first,
To live our lives with integrity and honesty,
To be strong,
To believe in ourselves.
