Beverly Hill Hoover
is honored with a Brick from V. Richard Hoover
Beverly Hill Hoover, wife, mother and community volunteer, was born in Amarillo,
TX, reared in Fort Worth and educated at Texas Women's University where she
received a BA in sociology.
Before marrying V. Richard Hoover, a Kansas geologist, Beverly taught school in
West Texas. She continued to teach in Great Bend and Wichita until her children
were born. After that, Beverly embarked upon a community journey that would see
her in leadership positions with cultural and civic organizations for 48 years.
Beverly has given of her time, talent and substance to numerous Kansas agencies,
museums, universities and youth organizations. And she has served as president
of boards of directors for all of them.
One of her first loves, while her children were young, was Camp Fire Girls,
serving as President of the local council and as a member of the State
committee. In her middle years, she became active in the arts, serving as
President of the Metropolitan Ballet of Wichita several times and was elected
President of the Friends of the Wichita Art Museum, Designing Women (support
group for the Center for the Arts), Chapter FM, PEO and Project Beauty.
For 10 years, she has served on the executive committee for the Friends of the
Wichita Art Museum Art and Book Fair, held each year on Mother's Day weekend;
and she continues to serve on the Kansas Diabetes Advisory Board and the Deacon
Board of Eastminister Presbyterian Church.
Beverly is an avid reader, enthusiastic exercise buff, faithful bridge player. .
. and gardens in her spare time!
When not presiding over board meetings, Beverly can be seen taking any one of
her four cherished grandchildren on trips around the country or just to the
neighborhood movies. Her children, Paul Hoover and Ellen Thimesch, and her
grandchildren, Molly, Tyler, Carly and Julie, are her pride and joy.
