Angel Daughter

A heroine possesses qualities that set her apart from the rest of the world. She perhaps gives more of her time to improve the quality of life for others. She may give an abundance of her financial resources. She, above all, gives of herself in extraordinary ways.

Our Hospice Care of Kansas team, as do other teams, provides quality care to persons and their families that are dealing with end of life issues. The numbers that we serve are many. Educating and enabling families to care for their loved one is a vital part of our hospice care. Patients and families provide us with inspirations, challenges and rewards. Care giving is not easy. Some of our families cope well; some do not. Some families rise to the challenge; others do not.

Ori Humig is a sixteen-year-old young woman who loves to write, being with her family and in her words, “making sure they are okay.” She wants to be a cosmetologist. We are honoring Ori today because we feel she is a heroine.

Ori cared for her mom, Diane Humig. She became an adult in a short time. Ori took the challenges of caring for her mother seriously and with dedication. Many adult children have difficulty providing such care. She followed the instructions of the RN in giving medications. Ori put aside her own needs and wants, not expecting anything in return. She dealt with many fears with courage and strength so that her mother could be more comfortable and reassured. She, above all, gave of herself in extraordinary ways for a sixteen year old person.

Ori has expressed a desire to help others who may go through a similar experience; particularly those of the same age. We recognize that Ori gave of herself without reservation and without question. We wish to honor and celebrate the person she has become.
