Junetta Everett is a 1979 graduate from the Health Related College of Wichita State University.

Junetta graduated from Wichita East High School in 1973 in her junior year. She then attended Butler County Junior College in El Dorado, Kansas where she received her Associates degree. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from Wichita State University in 1979. Junetta is proud of the fact that she is the first African American to graduate from Wichita State University’s Dental Hygiene program. She practiced for nine years as a registered dental hygienist and decided to pursue a career in the corporate world. Although she keeps her dental hygiene license current, in 1987 she accepted a position at Delta Dental Plan of Kansas; the largest Kansas based dental insurance company and was promoted to Vice President of Professional Relations in 1995 where she has the responsibility of network development, dental insurance training and implementing program initiatives, policies and procedures on a local and national basis. She has been responsible for growing the company’s dentist network by double digits during her tenure. For the past 10 years, Junetta has introduced the subject of dental insurance to the WSU senior dental hygiene students, which she says was not available for her class.

Junetta is very involved in the community and serves on several boards including the Communities United Credit Union, United Methodist Health Ministries Fund, and Eden’s Promise (a prevention and intervention teen support program for girls in Wichita). She has also served on the board of the Kansas Children’s Service League and various advisory committees including the Steering Committee of Oral Health Kansas, WSU Dental Hygiene Advisory Board and the Governor’s Conference for Child Abuse Prevention planning committee. Junetta was the initiator and coordinator of the P.A.N.D.A. (Prevent Abuse and Neglect through Dental Awareness) program and coalition for the state of Kansas. This is a statewide program of public-private partnerships, established to educate dental professionals and others (including nurses, teachers, childcare providers, attorneys, parents and the general public) on how to identify and report suspected cases of child abuse. Through her efforts of teaching and training in excess of 3,000 Kansans about child abuse prevention, in October 2003, she was the recipient of the Governor’s Exemplary Service Award for the Prevention of Child Abuse.

Junetta is married to Victor Everett, also a WSU alumnus. They are the proud parents of five sons; Terrin; Taurean; Twins-Tevan and Tevas; and Tyrell.

This commemoration is dedicated by the Professional Relations staff of Delta Dental Plan of Kansas to honor Junetta for all she has done for her family, friends, Delta Dental and the community.
Junetta is our leader, mentor and friend.
