Donna L. Littleton
is honored with a Brick from Alfred Littleton
Plaza of Heroines at Wichita State University-
$100.00 Brick for: Donna Lee (Baillie) Littleton
Class of 1950
This smart, caring, talented, personable and loving lady graduated from the University of Wichita in 1950 with a degree in Social Work. Because no job opportunities were open to her in her chosen field, she went to work at Boeing Airplane Company in a secretarial pool in Industrial engineering. These were the days when Boeing was building the fast B-47 Stratojet Bomber for use in the Korean War – had 36,000 workers – working 3 shifts. Donna’s work ethics and secretarial skills were so appreciated she worked up to the position of “executive secretary” to William Rutledge, the Factory Operations manager (the number three man at Boeing).
In December 1950, Donna married Alfred N. Littleton, whose career has been in amateur golf at Wichita North High School and Wichita State University and as the golf professional at Crestview Country Club and at the WSU Golf Course (Braeburn) for many years. Al also coached the W.S.U. men’s golf team for 17 years.
Donna and Al’s family consists of: Linda Gail (Littleton) Baxter who has degrees in “Education” and “Counseling” from WSU; Cynthia Lee (Littleton) Stone who graduated from Kansas State University; and Cheryl Jean (Littleton) Koerner who has worked for the Wichita Board of Education for many years.
In 1972, Donna was hired by Wayne Crawford, the WSU Director of Personnel Services / now Human Resources. After 20 years, Donna retired from the position as Assistant Director of Human Resources. Her job was overseeing the department workers, hiring Staff personnel to fulfill jobs as needed by all the WSU Department Heads, providing guidance and training courses as necessary and providing recognition and awards ceremonies.
Donna and Al continue an active interest in WSU Sports activities by providing an endowed Golf Scholarship for men’s golf and having men’s basketball season tickets plus supporting and attending other shocker sports events (baseball, women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, women’s golf, etc.) and monthly meetings with “old timers” Letterman’s Club and a WSU Supper Club Group.
