is honored with a Brick from Department of Mathematics and Statistics
Sue Neal, Math Educator
This brick is donated by the Mathematics Department of Wichita State University in honor of Sue’s retirement from the Math Educator position. June, 2007.
Sue is a teacher.
She has loved teaching thousands of mathematics students and was loved by many in return.
She has taught thousands of mathematics teachers. Her favorite example of exponential growth is that her teacher-students now teach more students and future teachers.
Sue’s career began in the Putnam City Schools in Oklahoma City in 1963. She taught at her alma mater, Edmond OK High School 1967-69. After moving to Wichita, she taught at Wichita Brooks Junior High in 1969-70, and Wichita Southeast High School 1970-88. She was a mathematics coordinator for Wichita Public Schools from 1988-96 and retired from that position.
Her service to Wichita State University began as an adjunct in 1984 and she became full time facility in 1996. She has held a joint appointment shared by the Department of Mathematics & Statistics and the Department of Curriculum & Instruction.
Her legacy is exemplified by the quote from Henry Brooks Adams,
“A teacher affects eternity.”
