Dr. Nancy Bereman
is honored with a Brick from WSU SHRM
Dr. Bereman has dedicated her life to Human Resources and her community. She received a PhD in Industrial Relations from the University of Minnesota, as well as a MBA and a BA in psychology at Wichita State University. Dr. Bereman has been a great resource both to the students she teaches and the school she supports through her many years serving on the faculty of WSU’s Barton School of Business; She has held many administrative roles, serving as the University’s Affirmative Action Officer, Associate Dean of the School of Business and is currently serving as the Chair of the Management Department. While a student she was instrumental in starting WSU’s student chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and for many years was the faculty advisor for the chapter. While an MBA student she was a member of The American Society of Personnel Administration (ASPA) she was instrumental in the organization receiving the Outstanding Student award from ASPA, something never accomplished before.
In speaking with former students many have fond memories of a dedicated instructor, willing to help and meet anytime to help students understand concepts. One student remembers “she is a very special teacher. She makes you strive to achieve your greatest potential and she gives you the tools to do so. Her classes are so in depth and she combines the material with current business conditions to make the
learning more relevant. I have the greatest respect and admiration for her. I learned a great deal from her. She made me want to be the best HR professional I can be. She can make the class fun without losing respect and control of the class.” Her willingness to help students understand and her unassuming demeanor allows students to feel like they can talk openly to her and if they take that opportunity they will certainly have their questions answered and leave her office full of new knowledge.
Dr. Bereman’s community contributions can been seen through her work with Senior Services, she served two, six year terms on the Board of Directors, and was Chairperson for 4 years. Her HR research skills and experience were utilized as she performed salary studies, was heavily involved in the implementation of a new compensation system and she was instrumental in the transition to a new leadership team.
The current executive board of WSU SHRM is pleased to honor Dr. Bereman with a brick in the Plaza of Heroines and looks forward to many more years of her positive influence at WSU.
