Barb Myers has loved education, and especially history, her entire life. She was raised in an Air Force family and visited a lot of historic sites as her family moved from base to base. Her graduate work at WSU included founding a non-profit organization to care for and restore the oldest cemetery in Wichita, Highland Cemetery. She focused on the sites within the cemetery which needed repair due to vandalism, overgrowth of trees, and age. In cooperation with the city of Wichita and with the help of volunteer groups from various schools, Civil Air Patrol, Facebook members, and many, many others, she has brought about a definite improvement in the cemetery’s appearance. She has connected with families of those interred in the cemetery to gain their approval for repairs at no expense to the family, gained funds through donations from local companies, spread education and knowledge of the city’s history by writing a book about the site, and maintains a Facebook presence to share history information.
