Versea Watts
is honored with a Brick from Sandra and Carl Nickles
Versea Smith was the daughter of Henderson and Ophelia Watts, she was born in Oklahoma moved to Wichita, Kansas. Versea attended North High school in the thirties. She attended Wichita University and graduated in 1942, with a BA but later decided to become a teacher. Miss Watts joined the Zeta Phi Beta sorority.
I believe that Miss Watts was a very strong woman of color who I'm sure faced much adversity during her years to acquire her degree.
Versea was active in her church, she enjoyed being in the women's mission, she also enjoyed the relationships with her longtime friends. Versea did not live to see her two grandchildren graduate from Wichita State, but would be proud to have the legacy of three generations at Wichita State also a great grandchild attending this year.
Honored by her daughter Sandra, son in law Carl, and grandchildren Carl Nickles and Kimberly Nickles Hope
