Dvorah Rosenhouse
is honored with a Brick from Nurit and Lawrence Davis.
Devorah Rosenhouse was born near Warsaw, Poland on May 5, 1917, to Bella and Abraham Domb. She had a sister, Eva, and a brother Shlomo. Her brother lives today in Toronto, Canada, while her parents, sister, and the rest of her family all perished in the Holocaust.
In 1936, she immigrated to Israel and began her studies in civil engineering at the Israel Institute of Technology. In 1940, she married David Rosenhouse, a civil engineer whom she met during her student days. During the years before Israel's independence, both served with distinction in the underground war against the British occupation of Palestine. They had three children, Giora, Nurit, and Daniella, and nine grandchildren.
Devorah lived most of her life in Haifa, Israel, on Mount Carmel. She was an extraordinarily strong, intellectual, and charismatic woman, who possessed an original and delightful sense of humor as well.
She died at home of cancer on September 28, 1981, and, as she had lived, she struggled with that illness with grace and nobility. She was a true heroine all her life, and is sorely missed by those who loved her.
