Amie Montgomery
is honored with a Brick from the Student Ambassador Society.
August 16, 1977 - February 17, 1997
Amie Kristine Montgomery had a great impact on the lives of students, professors and advisors that were lucky enough to know her during her time as a student at Wichita State University. Her kind ways made her an ideal example of Christianity. The diversity of her talents and interests made her a fascinating person able to identify and relate to many people. The Student Ambassador Society is proud to have had Amie as a founding member and to honor her with this award.
Amie was a Christian, guiding her life by God's principles. She was a member of Central Christian church and also played guitar in praise groups. Her faith was a source of strength for her, out of which she blessed many other people with kind words, a listening ear, and a friendly touch. She was in awe of God's work, frequently spending time outdoors, hiking, fishing, and just looking at the stars. Her best friends recall that "It was the simple things in life that Amie enjoyed most. She found joy in life, even when it kicked her to the dirt. She was a tough-spirited girl except when the hand of God reached out and touched her." Amie had hoped to go into the mission field to share her love of Christ soon after college.
Amie was a talented girl in many different areas. She was very intelligent and was attending Wichita State on a Wallace Engineering Scholarship. She enjoyed playing soccer through WSU club and at her church. She was; also a poet, musician, painter, daughter, sister and friend.
Amie was a founding member of the Student Ambassador Society. She was outstanding in the organization, right from the beginning. On her application she wrote, "I am a peacemaker, I lead by example and humor." These words perfectly describe her involvement in the group. She always brought the sunshine of her laugh to our organization. We were privileged to have known her.
Amie died tragically on February 17, 1997 when she was shot in a robbery. Her life was short, but had great impact. Her friends and family are comforted by the knowledge that Amie is now in heaven with her Lord. One message that Amie might want people to learn from her is taken from a verse she had marked in the Bible, Romans 12:21: "Do not be overcome by evil. but overcome evil with good." Amie certainly did.
