Shelley Agee Nehrt
is honored with a Brick from M. Lee Agee.
It's always difficult growing up a girl and particularly when you have two good looking older brothers who excel in sports and get lots of attention. This, at a time when Title IX was in its infancy and sports opportunities for girls were almost nil.
Undaunted by the lack of opportunities for women, Shelley Agee Nehrt has created her own opportunities through hard work, perseverance and good humor to make a success of her life.
As a high school student at Southeast High in Wichita, she served as Director of the All-School Project and served as President of the Water Ballet Club. She was a Student Government Representative each year and served on the Executive Council as Finance Director during her senior year. She was a page to the Kansas State Legislature and was selected Outstanding Senior Girl in her last year at Southeast.
She attended Wichita State University receiving her BBA in 1977. While at WSU she was a Student Government representative, Campus Activity Center Advisor, Research Assistant and worked in the WSU Affirmative Action office. After graduation from WSU, she attended Bernard Baruch College in New York City where she earned her Master of Business Administration degree. She has been married to Philip Nehrt for over twenty years and they have two wonderful daughters.
For five years she worked for the Coleman Company in Human Resources and the Imports Division. The family moved to Illinois after she received an offer from the Thermos Corporation. She remained there for five years leaving as Vice President of Marketing. She is presently Marketing Manager for Stack-0n Products in Wauconda, Illinois. Her most recent accomplishment, with her husband and three other partners, is the creation of a software package, and Shelley is serving as Vice President of Marketing for their newly formed company.
Her accomplishments in business do not compare to what she has done in her personal life, Her ability to sort out the positive in any problem situation has resulted in family, friends and fellow employees turning to her for guidance and affirmation, She has been an excellent wife, mother and daughter. She has always had a bright and positive outlook with the courage to challenge adversity. This attitude has spilled over to her daughters and will be the continuation of her strong courage and enduring values.
Her brick in the Plaza of Heroines is not a gift - it has been earned.
