Ingrid Rokosz
is honored with a Brick from Frank Rokosz.
Ingrid Rokosz is honored in the WSU Plaza of Heroines by her husband, Frank, in appreciation of her 18+ years of being a loving wife, and being a great mother to their 16-year-old daughter, Meridith. She has been the steadying force in the family, being there when needed, and doing all the often-taken-for-granted little things that hold a family together.
Ingrid has taught science for the Wichita public schools since 1986, with her current assignment being at Coleman Middle School. Having earned a Master's degree from the University of Wisconsin, she originally came to Wichita in 1979 as a temporary faculty member, on a six-year appointment with the Physical Education Department at WSU. While there, she taught biomechanics, first aid, fencing, volleyball, and soccer. About two months after meeting Frank, who has been a member of the physical education faculty since 1973, the two committed to a marriage that took place on campus during spring break of 1980.
Ingrid is originally from New York City, where she was born of West Indian parents in 1952, and named by her mother after the actress Ingrid Bergman. She was educated in Catholic schools, then graduated from Brooklyn College in 1974 with a degree in physical education. While at Brooklyn, Ingrid was Captain of the women's fencing team that finished fifth at the national championships in 1973. She substitute-taught physical education in over sixty school districts on Long Island, New York for two years before going to Wisconsin to get her Master's degree.
Ingrid's primary interests involve sewing, gardening, playing classical guitar, and listening to West Indian calypso music.
