Kathy Hampton-Ladwig
is honored with a Brick from Phil Ladwig.
Kathy Hampton-Ladwig is honored for her lifelong dedication to the value of education, and the example she has set for students whose educational path is not easy. She has received three degrees from Wichita State University: a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education (1974); a Master of Education in School Psychology (1980); and a Specialist Degree in School Psychology (1994). These accomplishments were achieved largely on her own--she was divorced early in her college life. It was not unusual for her to work three jobs at a time to stay in school.
Kathy has put her education to use for the good of the Wichita community. She is a school psychologist for USD 259. Before that she taught behavioral disorders and social studies for secondary students for 15 years. Her effectiveness as a school psychologist comes from a loving determination to do what is best for each child, and a willingness to work as a team member to accomplish that. (Her sense of humour has also been a wonderful survival tool.)
Kathy is the daughter of Russell and Thelma Hampton, and has a brother, Robert, and a sister, Linda, living in Wichita. She remarried in 1989 to Phil Ladwig. She loves to travel, and her trips have included Europe twice, and Mexico.
Besides her intelligence and determination, Mrs. Hampton-Ladwig's success is also a product of intense curiosity. She has what C.S. Lewis called "a mind awake." Kathy is irresistibly drawn to the adventure of discovering and absorbing new knowledge. This curiosity has forged a wonderful educational partnership with Wichita State University.
